One of the main reasons for this poor performance is the fact that shortest-path routing protocols tend to select relatively long-distance hops, which are then subject to interference, similar to the observations in [8]. Even if the routing metric is changed to select more stable links, the problems of sharing a limited bandwidth wireless channel, interference from transmissions in the neighborhood, etc. can still result in relatively poor overall performance [20]. Almost all MANET routing protocols provide parameters to adapt the protocol behavior to the specific characteristics of the network in which they are deployed.
