On those campuses, she met her two scholar mentors, economist Grace S. M. Zorbaugh and psychologist Kate Hevner Mueller, both active in the National Association of Deans of Women (NADW) and with the AWS governments on their campuses in the 1930s and 1940s. Both women adhered to the professional conventions originally established by midwestern and western deans, drawing from the tradition of Progressivism.
