Identification of children who have been abused is a complex and delicate process. As noted, many of the symptoms associated with abuse can reflect other types of problems. However, ignoring the warning signs of abuse can exacerbate the psychological and physical impact of the problem. School personnel need to recognize the symptoms of abuse and understand their obligations to report them.
