CDNA SEQUENCE OF HUMAN s-PREPROTACHYKININ Some human carcinoid tumours have been shown to contain and secrete large amounts of the tachykinins SP, NkA and NpK and may, therefore, provide a rich source of PPT mRNA. We have established the cDNA sequence of human s-PPT using, as the source of mRNA, a metastatic deposit from a laryngeal carcinoid tumour [4]. The tumour caused hypersalivation and local pain in the patient, possibly as a consequence of ectopic SP production IS]. cDNA was synthesised from poly (A) RNA from tumour tissue and inserted into the plasmid pBR322 by standard procedures.
