The women put the rice seeds in a big round wooden barrel. The barrel has a long pole on one side. The women step on one end and make it move like a hammer.
Page 24 Recipes One pleasant summer afternoon I observed the herb and spice collection from the garden and watched the preparation of three traditional Hmong meals by my co-writer, Dia, and her husband, Kao Xiong. Then came the tasty part, when we sampled these foods. Dia and Kao cooked like my mother-in-law dida handful of this, a pinch of that, a dash of this, and approximated amounts of water. However, I have recorded these recipes using measuring instructions that are much more formal. A variety of meats and other ingredients can be substituted in each of the recipes.
