E. Thomas to live in a boxcar on a siding fifteen miles north of Purcell in order to operate a telegraph station there. He called the place “Norman” because of the old sign that had been carved nearby. Soon a section house was erected for Thomas on the west side of the track, where it passed the present Duffy Street; he lived there for eighteen lonely months and left before the excitement of April 1889.
