Men wore knee-length stockings of tailored cotton or wool, held up with garters. Leather shoes with low heels and low sides were common, but boots in the style of King Charles I’s court were also popular. Women wore stockings and shoes similar to the men’s, and aprons to protect their skirts from chores.
