1906-1915 The only publication in the Werke series is volume 7, a new edition of the Theoria motus, supplanting the volume published by Schering in Gotha in 1871. Ostwald's Klassiker adds the memoir on mechanics and the two summary memoirs on geodesy. For the first time in fifty years there are French translations: an anastatic reprint of the 1807 translation of the Disquisitiones arithmeticae and a 1915 translation of Gauss 1825a, the prize-winning memoir on conformal mapping. In addition to the second volume of the Olbers correspondence, various individual letters are published.
A slim biographic volume which speaks to both the life and work of the subject is Hall 1965; it is translated into English a few years later. 1966-1975 Except for translations into English of the Disquisitiones arithmeticae and the first proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, this is a decade of reprints. These include the Werke, and the correspondence with Schumacher. An important contribution is made by Theo Gerardy (1969), who supplements Peters's edition of the Schumacher correspondence by giving the text of missing passages as well as letters overlooked or excluded by Peters.
