The convention recorded during this quantity used to be one of many occasions organised to have a good time the centenary of the (re)establishment of the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh, on Blackford Hill in 1884. Circumstellar subject was once chosen because the subject due to very important contributions towards study within the box via contemporary observations within the infrared and submillimetre, quite with the 2 telescopes which the Observatory has either operated and equipped instru mentation for - the uk Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) and the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT). The programme aimed to hide as many elements of circumstellar subject as may possibly healthy right into a one-week assembly, omitting simply planetary nebulae, which were good served by way of conferences within the prior years. We thank the foreign medical advisory com mittee (overleaf) for his or her assist in picking out the Invited Reviewers round which the programme used to be equipped. The Invited reports and oral contributions are integrated within the order and sections during which they have been offered, even the place re-ordering could have been extra logical. We didn't try and categorise the poster contributions yet have integrated them in alphabetical order. a night consultation for viewing and discussing posters in an unhurried surroundings used to be very profitable. a contest for the easiest poster was once held and the prize was once provided for that by means of Lindqvist, Lucas, Olofsson, Omont, Eriksson & Gustafsson.

INFRARED CO EMISSION AND DISKS AROUND YOUNG STARS JOHN S. , Columbus, Ohio 43210-1106, USA Abstract. High-resolution near-infrared spectroscopy of CO overtone emission bands has provided some of the best kinematic evidence for the existence of circumstellar disks around young stars. The CO emission flux and the detailed shape of the overtone bands are well matched by simple Keplerian disk models.

The lack of red-shifted forbidden lines in most of the optical T Tauri stars (TTSs) is most likely due to the presence of obscuring disks of size 100 AU (Edwards et al. 1987). Large linear polarizations have been observed towards a number of TTSs at both optical (Bastien 1982) and near-infrared (Tamura and Sato 1989) wavelengths, which are probably due to the asymmetry of the dust disk structure. Near-IR (Strom et al. 1989) and millimeter data (Beckwith et al. 1990) have shown that roughly 50% of the TTSs have excess emission at these wavelengths, which is due to dust emission in the different parts of the small-scale disk.

AMMONIA IMAGES NEAR OBJECTS WITH CLASS 0 SPECTRAL ENERGY DISTRIBUTIONS ALWYN WOOTTEN NRAO·, 520 Edgemont Road, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903-2475 U. S. A. Abstract. A shroud of cold dust shapes the 'Class 0' spectral distribution of the youngest stars. We have imaged a number of these objects in the inversion lines of ammonia to investigate the molecular circumstellar environment on thousand AU scales. Although the dust spectra of these objects resemble one another, a variety of physical characteristics occur in the sample.
