She asked him, confused. But just at that time, she heard blowing horns and conch-shells. Tulsi was overjoyed and fell into her husband’s arms. Even as she hugged him, the real Shankhachooda who was actually fighting the battle, suddenly lost all his strength! And in no time at all, Lord Shiva cut-off his head with his trident. Tulsi immediately realised the big trick played on her. Terribly angry with Lord Vishnu, she turned to him, ‘You have made me impure. And for what purpose? Only to win some war!

After the task of churning the ocean was over, Lord Vishnu gave up his tortoise form and kept a watchful eye on the demons to make sure they were not up to any mischief. Apart from the nectar, a vessel full of deadly poison or kaalkoot also appeared from the ocean which no one had claimed. Neither the gods nor the demons wanted to take it as their own! However, before possessing the nectar, a condition had to be fulfi lled—someone had to drink the kaalkoot. The gods and demons then began discussing ways to get out of this situation.

He agreed and drank the poison, but he did not swallow it. He just kept it in his throat. Due to the poisonous content, his throat turned blue! This was how he got the name Neelkanth. At last, it was the turn of the nectar! Lord Vishnu was observing the activities of the demons carefully—he was sure they were up to no good. As soon as the poison was gotten rid of, they leaped in glee towards the nectar, but at that time, a beautiful vision came and stood in front of them. The demons were left speechless at seeing such an elegant lady.
