The 7th foreign visual view Symposium prepared by means of the Interna tional Perimetric Society used to be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 6-10,1986. in lots of respects it used to be an exhilarating and fruitful assembly. The variety of contributors was once more than ever. The variety of papers used to be too nice to house them all. the standard of the papers displays the consistently emerging curiosity in perimetry usually and in computerized perimetry specifically. final yet no longer least the social programme was once equipped within the, by way of now, nearly classical pleasant, relaxing and humouristic type of the foreign Perimetric Society. This created an environment of openness and loose alternate of informa tion whICh used to be in actual fact additionally felt within the medical classes. The medical half was once divided in seven periods with forty four spoken papers and a separate postersession in which the forty six posters have been mentioned. the most important subject matters of the assembly have been 'The impression of media-disturbances at the sight view' and 'Advances in perimetry in glaucoma with certain emphasis on professional gression'. The consultation on 'media' supplied fascinating details on how the field of regard was once effected by means of preretinal filters. The authors both studied the impression of lens or corneal opacities or simulated opacities by way of certain filters positioned in entrance of the attention. In papers the impact of cataract was once certified by means of images or stray mild measurements.

The imitation of a cataract with an occluder of a defined opacity, such as is used in orthoptic practice, was first used by Niesel [11, 12] with the Goldmann perimeter in the study of normals and glaucoma patients. The use of tinted contact leses [13] is based on the same principle. It allows the exclusion of other influences (in the examination of normal people) and more rapid results (saving in time compared with that required for operative intervention). In our clinical trial we combined Niesel's method with computerized static perimetry and the new software permitting data reduction.

A. 4 Simulation of the influence of lens opacities on the perimetric results; investigated with orthoptic occ1uders U. URNER-BLOCH Zurich, Switzerland Abstract The development of cataract during perimetric follow up of glaucoma patients is a difficult, but frequent problem in the daily practice of the ophthalmologist. By simulating media opacities with orthoptic occluders on the corrective lens, their influence on the perimetric results (using the Octopus 500E, programme G j ) was studied in a group of normal persons and a group of patients with pathological fields.
