Debbie Clare Olson AMINI, JOHARI (1935– ) Johari Amini ( Jewel C. Latimore) is a poet, writer, teacher, and chiropractor. As a poet, she seeks to celebrate her black heritage and to reject the racism that was so prevalent in American society during the 1960s. She and other poets protested the unequal treatment of blacks by turning away from traditional approaches in American poetry.
