First, to provide humans an idea of the sheer dimension and succeed in of the NAR flow. And moment, to systematize its key teachings and practices and assessment them at the foundation of Scripture and cautious reasoning … . In our judgment, the NAR standpoint crosses those barriers [that is, sure wide parameters, published in Scripture and practiced within the ancient orthodox church], and it does so partly as a result of unsuitable theology rooted in a wrong figuring out of Scripture. we want to warn readers a couple of attainable confusion: a few critics have associated the NAR stream with mainstream Pentecostalism and charismatics. we don't do that. in reality, it's our rivalry that the NAR stream deviates from classical Pentecostal and charismatic teachings. This stream has emerged out of self sufficient charismatic church buildings and, hence, has received a foothold in lots of of these church buildings in various degrees."

140 Apostles earn their office—grounded in public recognition that they are apostles—first by demonstrating that they have the spiritual gift of apostleship. 141 Genuine apostles need never appoint themselves to the office because others will recognize them as apostles and confer on them the office of an apostle. This conferral often occurs during a formal commissioning ceremony led by other apostles, as well as prophets. 142 Once the office of apostle is conferred, it’s appropriate for that individual to use the title of apostle.

But these apostles are not considered to possess the authority of the original apostles. This particular understanding of apostles is not so common today. In the middle of the spectrum are many classical Pentecostals and charismatics103 who agree with the above definition of present-day apostles as pioneering missionaries and church planters. Yet they give these leaders added authority. These groups believe that apostles exist today who are authorized to perform miraculous signs to confirm the truth of the gospel they proclaim.

Failure to submit to a NAR apostle is seen as failure to submit to God. ”136 If apostles sit at the top of church government, then how are they kept from abusing their authority? To whom are they accountable? Wagner allows that the issue of apostolic accountability is tricky. ”138 Wagner’s hope is that overseeing apostles will voluntarily develop accountability relationships with other overseeing apostles.
