Para discutir con lógica es preciso determinar el tipo de desacuerdo. Veamos algunos en orden de facilidad para resolverlos, pues si no se precisa el tipo de desacuerdo, dócilmente podremos solucionar los conflictos que engendran. 1. En cuanto a los hechos. Alguien sostiene que el enunciado x es verdadero y otro sostiene que no lo es. O cuando las personas difieren en sus reconocimientos, datos, creencias, experiencias o conocimientos respecto a si sucedió tal o cual cosa, o cómo sucedió (la inflación subió el 10% dice uno, y el otro afirma que el 15%).

Estas leyes se han establecido primordialmente con base en: 1. La recolección de ejemplos de inferencias correctas, analizadas y validadas por estudiosos. 2. La descripción verbal de la estructura de los argumentos (filosofía aristotélica y medieval). 3. El estudio de las inferencias que la experiencia ha demostrado como exitosas (Locke). 4. La exposición de las leyes subyacentes del discurso inferencial, utilizando un lenguaje simbólico capaz de representarlas con precisión (Leibniz, Russell).
