That's one reason I admire Maria Gibbs (227 and The Jejfersons); she has a foundation set up in the community. You have to build a base in the community. I'm proud of where I came from. My first real job in filmmaking was given to me by Bill Greaves* in 1976, as an associate producer. You need to trust in your instincts as an artist.
