It lasted barely six months in office, and despite efforts at bringing in the other fighting groups and prolonged negotiations in Nairobi, Kenya, with the National Resistance Army for a government of national unity, the régime collapsed at the end of 1985. In January 1986, the National Resistance Army (NRA) led by Yoweri Museveni overran Kampala and assumed power. The NRA is the military wing of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), the organization that has been ruling Uganda under what it proclaims to be a 'no-party' system of rule.
